About Us

Archimedia Technology, Inc. was founded in May 2013 by Mark Gray, Chi-Long Tsang and Josef Marc. Addressing the needs of our customers, Archimedia Technology aims to bring the knowledge and experience of encoding, decoding and transcoding of mastering and archive formats such as JPEG2000 and Digital Cinema to the end user in a simple and practical way. Our products provide vital pieces of the jigsaw puzzle in the workflow of high end production and to archivists alike where QC and file interchange has been seen as a 'black art' for a long time.

Mark Gray, President and CEO

​Mark, Archimedia co-founder, has had a long and successful career in the Broadcast, Professional Television and Rich Media technology markets. He has recently served as Executive Vice President of Front Porch Digital.  This appointment was as a result of his engineering the acquisition of SAMMA Systems where he served as President, CEO and Co-founder.  The development of the SAMMA migration process has recently been awarded an Emmy.  He has also served on the boards of directors of several companies including EGT, Telco Television Corporation, and Giant Studios.  His career includes a successful tenure with Kasenna where he served as Chairman, President and CEO from 2000-2006.  Prior to Kasenna, he served as Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer of Pluto Technologies from 1995-2000.  Prior assignments also include Chairman, President and CEO of Chyron Corporation, a publicly traded corporation listed on the New York Stock Exchange.  Mark held several senior executive positions at Sony Corporation of America, including President of Sony Communications Products Company, which included Sony Broadcast and Sony Pro-Products divisions.  Mark’s career has also included Chief Operating Officer of Pinnacle Systems Inc., General Manager of the Studio Products Division of Ampex Corporation and previous years in executive positions with the Harris Corporation and Tektronix, Inc.  Mark holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Tennessee, a Master of Arts Degree in Communication from St. Louis University, and is a graduate of the School of Executive Development of the Babson College graduate school of business.

Chi-Long Tsang, Chief Technology Officer

Chi, Archimedia co-founder, has had a successful career in the Broadcast and Television industry for over 21 years. Chi has been at the forefront of design technology in some of the industry's leading products, winning UK's Queen's Award for Innovation and Technology in 2007 and recently the Academy of Television, Arts and Science's Emmy Award in 2012. Chi served as Chief Software Engineer at Snell & Wilcox for 13 years where he created world renowned products such as the TPG20, the world's first multi-format digital test pattern generator and the IQ Modular Range and RollCall remote network control protocol, used by many of the largest TV networks today. Chi also served as CTO for SAMMA Systems and VP of Engineering for SAMMA Products at Front Porch Digital. With his driving force behind the SAMMA range of products, he has become one of the leading proponents of the use of JPEG2000 in the archive sector. Chi holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Southampton, UK and is an active member of the SMPTE standards committee working groups. Chi's passion to embrace technology to create better and more useful products is as strong as ever and thrives to make a difference in the industry we care so much about. 

Josef Marc, Chief Marketing Officer

​​​​​​​​​​Josef, Archimedia co-founder, is laser-focused on your experiences as our customer. Like Mark and Chi, Josef came from Front Porch Digital and SAMMA where he managed engineers designing media archives, asset management, mass digitization, and online video publishing systems. He has had a successful career helping media businesses use the newest and the oldest technologies to make better video in all its traditional and emerging forms. He led Ascent Media's technical part of launching Verizon FiOS TV, and the project office for Sony's part in launching DirecTV. Consulting to Sony Corp he co-wrote a book on interactive TV and Web media. He designed archives at The United Nations Int'l Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, and hosted workshops for the Assoc. of Moving Image Archivists. At Sony SIC he managed installations for CBS' Olympics broadcasts, The Game Show Network launch, JumboTrons etc. He was CTO of ConnectOne, a triple-play CLEC offering IP video, telecom and Web services. He is a member of the Society of Motion Picture & Television Engineers, and the Assoc. of Moving Image Archivists. A pre-law major at University of San Diego, he enjoyed a first career as a recording/touring musician and has never stopped playing live music.

 

 

Andrea Smith, Vice President of Sales, Western Region and Canada

Andrea is an experienced and creative digital media executive, passionate about helping clients optimize their content intelligently. She hopes to make everyone’s jobs a little easier in the process.

Based in Los Angeles, Andrea is responsible for overseeing Archimedia Technology’s Global Sales and Strategic Partnerships. Formerly she was Vice President of Sales for Media Services in Technicolor’s Creative Services Division, responsible for developing strategic independent and growth-accounts, strategy, and direct sales specializing in end-to-end title optimization of broadcast and motion pictures. Prior to Technicolor, Andrea led Media & Entertainment sales for the Revere Group, an NTT DATA Company, where she shepherded the growth of the Media and Entertainment practice from a four-person start-up to a leading M&E practice with more than 300 employees.
