Master Player

JPEG2000, Digital Cinema and other Mastering Formats

JPEG2000 has become the compression format of choice for film mastering and archival institutions around the world. Its ability to generate reversible lossless compressed files at variable bit-rates provides an effective way of reducing media storage costs. JPEG2000 also provides lossy compression for those needing very high quality video but even smaller file sizes. Digital Cinema is one such application where the use of JPEG2000 is now standardized. For those not using JPEG2000, the alternative for lossless quality is simply uncompressed. Many leading editing applications support uncompressed formats and is the perfect format for transcoding to other formats. The Archimedia Master Player supports uncompressed, lossy and lossless, 8, 10 and 12 bit formats for all your monitoring needs.

MXF, AVI, MOV, DPX, ProRes and other Formats

Material Exchange Format (MXF) is the leading professional broadcast file format for encapsulating video, audio and metadata content. It has been widely adopted as the de-facto wrapper for JPEG2000 content. MXF also supports uncompressed 4:2:2 (YCbCr) and 4:4:4 (RGB) formats.

The player also supports Microsoft AVI and Apple MOV file formats including ProRes, and plays Cineon DPX files directly from a directory.

Built-in Reference Test Patterns and Charts

With our partner VideoQ, we have developed a set of unique test patterns and charts to provide lossless quality digital signals for engineering and test purposes such as display setup and encoder / decoding paths. A built-in set of static patterns are available in various formats along with optional full-frame complex and moving charts. Use this to verify the true potential of your system.

HDMI Native Output

One of the unique features of the Archimedia Master Player is the ability to drive the HDMI interface in full-screen mode at the native resolution and frame rate of the file content. When viewed on a true HDTV, video motion will appear as intended without any cross frame-rate interference. Picture resolution can also be scaled to whatever your HDTV supports. This is the most cost effective way of displaying the true quality of your video without the use of a SDI card.

SD, HD and 4K Serial Digital Interface (SD/HD 3G-SDI)

With our partner Bluefish444, we have developed an optional SD/HD 3G-SDI PCI-Express I/O card which provides 8, 10 and 12-bit 4:4:4 uncompressed baseband video with up to 16 channels of 24-bit PCM audio through BNC connectors for SDI monitoring, distribution or VTR dubbing. All interfaces are 3G-SDI compliant and supports single link or dual link modes. Just install the drivers and get SDI and HDMI outputs simultaneously.

Compatibility

The Archimedia Master Player supports the widest range of JPEG2000 MXF and uncompressed files available in the industry today. These include files from Front Porch Digital, SAMMA Systems, Digital Rapids, OpenCube and Amberfin formats. Help us improve our product by letting us know what formats you need!
